Tips for Tarts

Portuguese Custard Tarts…aka “Manna from heaven”, “Pasties de nata”, Pasties de Belem”
What ever you like to call them, they are a simple delight and much loved by all. Of course fresh is best, but if you’ve got some you’ve been keeping in the fridge and you do want a tip, to make these treats even better (if that is possible)?
Then try this:
1: Pre-heat your oven to 220 Celcius (fan forced is best)…the hotter/stronger the better
2: Pop the tarts in, on a flat tray for about 7 Mins.
The custard will soufflé, and caramelise more, and the pastry will crisp back up, (keep an eye on them, don’t let them burn)
3: Bliss out :) They’re best enjoyed straight away, warm and delicious.

Having said all that however, we do have a ready supply at the Deli and at Markets around Perth – so come and get ’em!
